Homeschooling: The First Week

We survived the first week!

The perk of homeschooling.....going bare footed to school! :)

The curriculum starts pretty slow and the phonics and arithmetic is just a review of things she knows at this point. Some parts she definitely loved and some she whined and complained about (writing, for sure!). 

Here's Arabelle's painting to go with our poem for the week:

I'm Glad

I'm glad the sky is painted blue

And the earth is painted green

With such a lot of nice fresh air

All sandwiched in between.

The curriculum begins with the letter 'M'. She was irritated by having to write the 'M's, but enjoyed some extra activities. She and Bo cut 'M's out of some magazines and glued them onto the M papers. They both loved the activity!

I found some extra letter sheets that she likes. This one is a letter maze and she put stickers on the 'M's to lead the mouse to the cheese.

This is her animal alphabet color book. We talked about a lot of 'M' animals....macaw, moose, mule, minnow, and more!

We also drew a map of Broxton, including our house, Connie's house, the library, elementary school, church, and Sambo & Leigh Leigh's house. We took the map and Arabelle led me to church Wednesday evening using the map. :)

Our music of the week was Radetsky March by Johann Strauss. Arabelle enjoyed learning about an orchestra and marching around the house. 

She also learned how to use the telephone and kept asking me for people's phone numbers so she could call them. haha!!

Friday morning we did a Science/Art project. We looked at the different trees in our yard and talked about the leaves, bark, etc. Then Arabelle painted a picture of the tree of her choice. She chose the pecan tree in the back yard.  

 Very focused!!

Unfortunately, we left the picture outside to dry and a bird used it as it's bathroom. I threw it away before Arabelle saw it and got upset. :-p

We also had a lot of fun this week between the school 'work'. 

Arabelle built a tent in the kitchen and wanted Mae to join her. She was so happy to have her baby sister in the tent! 

We went to the park Thursday morning.

I don't think Arabelle realized a lot of the things we did were for school. Reading books, Bible stories, playing word games, and painting were things we already tend to do. Hopefully after a few weeks of writing and doing her workbooks, she'll get accustomed to that part and stop whining about it! All in all, it was a successful first week!
