Mae's 6 month check-up

Mae had her 6 month check up today and she did great!

She measured 27 inches long (85th percentile) and 14lb 10oz (20th percentile). Long and lean, just like her big sister. :) For comparison, Arabelle was 16lb 9oz and 28.75 inches long at 6 mo. Mae really is a petite and healthy little girl!

We had a long wait....it's hard to keep a tired baby occupied in a tiny little room!

And she's really getting around these days too! Yes, she's wearing Halloween PJs in November. :)

Mae's First Cold

Poor Mae had her first cold last week and she was a miserable girl! She started coughing on Monday, the 18th and had her first fever early Tuesday morning. She was coughing and so congested and running a fever off an on until Saturday! She is still coughing and congested, but has finally perked up. I sure missed her giggles and smiles last week!

I did take her to get checked last week, since her cough sounded so bad. We had a long and crazy wait in the tiny little room. I always wonder if they're not secretly videoing for a hidden camera show or something. haha!

As you can see, she's feeling much better this week, despite still coughing and having a ton of snot. Gross.

Homemade See-Saw

Arabelle has 'built' a see-saw several times, but it turned into a wild time and then building a catapult.

It started out relatively calmly.....

Then it got a little wild....and more fun if you ask Arabelle and Bo!

Then Arabelle got more creative (and a bit dangerous!).

She loves to build stuff and it makes me wonder what she'll choose to do when she's grown up!

Silly Kids

These foam letters that link together to make a mat have been the most fun! They are great for phonics games and anything else that the kids can come up with.

Even wearing them!

Mae is 6 months old!!

Mae is 6 months old! Half a year! I can't believe it (I know....I say that every single month). She grows and changes so much from month to month.

  • She is now sitting up really well, but doesn't stay in one place long. She can go from sitting to crawling position without falling over now.
  • She loves to get up on her hands and knees, then hands and feet. She also tries to go from crawling position to sitting, but can't quite get all the way upright.
  • She's rolling belly to back now.
  • She still loves those toes! And has started sucking on 2 fingers at times, especially when she's tired.

  • All this learning to crawl and move has seriously disrupted her good naps. I can watch her on the monitor and when she hits the 40 minute mark, she pops up from being completely asleep to up on her hands and knees, trying to rock. She will take better naps again. One day.
  • She's nursing every 3.5 hours during the day and waking 1-2 times/night. Pretty frustrating since she used to sleep SO well at night!!
  • Mae is up around 7 in the mornings and goes to bed around 6:30-7, due to the short naps (three 40 minute naps).
  • Mae still loves to be outside and likes to explore the grass and leaves.

  • She is slowly starting to crawl! She's doing a lot of scoot and lunge and can definitely get to what she wants. I bet she'll be all over the place in this next month!

  • She is still a big drooler and has to wear a bib all the time to soak it up.
  • I intended to really get into solids with her this week, but she has her first cold virus, so we'll start next week, when she's feeling better.
  • She's in a size 2 diaper and 6 or 9 month clothes, depending on the brand. She's nearly up to 15 lbs, which is my lightest baby! Arabelle was 16lb 9oz and Bo was a hefty 19lb 13oz!!
  • Mae loves bath time and looking at herself in the mirror afterwards!

  •  She has also become my little hip baby. Thank you separation anxiety. :)

  • She loves to chew on apples, dislikes banana.

I love this happy little girl!!!

Pampered

Am I spoiled or what!? Arabelle wanted to style my hair today and of course, I said yes!

First, she brushed my hair (for the first time of the day), then put in lots of clips and hair bows on the front and a pony tail in the back.

Lucky for you, I made a video of it all (which is hilarious!):
*I tried not to get myself on the video....I'd been up since 5:30, hadn't washed my face or brushed my hair. :)

I so enjoy special girl time with Arabelle!!

Animal Fun at the State Park

The homeschool group meets at the State park on occasion for playtime (okay, we Moms may enjoy it even more than the kids!). We went a bit early this past week and fed the ducks and enjoyed all the other animals before going to the playground.

The ducks there are a bit aggressive when they see you've got bread for them (and I really dislike birds!), so we got up on a picnic table to feed them. :)

We also walked around to check out the other animals and the ducks followed us. A couple of chickens squeezed through a hole in their fence and followed us too. Oops, I did this one sideways.

Arabelle asked to have her picture made with almost all of the animals. haha!

Ducks following us around....

And Bo nearly fell off the edge here and into the water. Whew!

Mae was there too!!!

It was a fun little outing!

Thanksgiving Crafts

We made our first of several Thanksgiving crafts on Tuesday!

They painted watercolors onto coffee filters, folded them in half (after they dried), then glued the 'turkey' on. Arabelle used a can to trace a circle and cut them out for her and Bo. Pretty fun!

Mae likes to move-it move-it!

Mae isn't doing the traditional crawling yet, but she's doing a 'flop and scoot' thing that is getting her places (short distances)!

From the pictures, you can see she is an active little thing!

Push-ups while reading....talented girl!

Busted!

What did you say, Mom???

She looks so confused here!

I've got my running shoes ready.....

Twins!

So many people tell me that Mae favors Bo. I do see it, some, but she really reminds me of Arabelle. I took this picture of Mae on Saturday and right when I took it, I remembered this picture of Arabelle that looks nearly identical!

Arabelle was 4.5 months and Mae is 5.5 months.

Mae's Busy Day

Mae had a busy day on Friday!

After her morning nap, we picked Bo up from school and went to get her ears pierced! Arabelle was excited for Mae to match her, but wasn't excited to about Mae crying. She only cried a minute, then was fine!

She will be 6 mo. old on the 20th and has really been going after things I'm holding lately (cups, mail, food, etc.) Thursday I had an apple and I let her gnaw on it a bit:

Then the apple slipped and here's what happened:

Don't worry. She got over it with a little distraction. :)

So, Friday, we had steamed broccoli at supper, so we decided to give Mae a few big pieces to chew on. She was really curious and played with it a bit before putting it to her mouth. Once she did, she decided she liked it and really tore it up!

Here she is in action:

Arabelle and Bo thought it was so neat to see her eating! I can't believe my baby is big enough for this.

Arabelle the Architect

Arabelle loves to build and make stuff out of....junk. An organized craft barely keeps her attention, but let her go around and find random things and she'll make something spectacular. I love it!!

Thursday, she grabbed a few things off the porch and made a little house in the backyard! She used the wheelbarrow (on the left), her princess chair, a bench, old boxes, the blanket, and the wagon.

She was quite proud of herself! :)
